Maria, the founder of Kind Bag

Maria, the founder, started to become aware of the worldwide plastic issue a few years ago. Like many people, she started cutting down on plastic consumption, realising the effects plastic can have on the environment and our oceans. Did you know, thrown away plastic in one year equals circling the earth four times?

Although most people know that plastic cannot be absorbed back into the environment, there are many that are unaware of just how much plastic ends up in our oceans. Most importantly, this can be detrimental.
Furthermore, the world is currently producing nearly 300 million tons of plastic each year. This is a significant amount of which will end up in the oceans, in fact, that amount is equivalent to a garbage truck full of plastic dumping plastic into the ocean every minute.
Unfortunately, although plastic is a useful product, many of these products are single-use only with an estimated 50% of plastic thrown away after one single use.

Single Use Plastic Bags

Maria’s next thought went to where the plastic she consumed came from. She concluded that a big part of it was from single-use plastic bags. With that in mind, she started to research and found out that single-use plastic bags are a huge global problem. A plastic bag has an average “working life” of 15 minutes. Furthermore, the average European family takes home almost 1,500 plastic shopping bags a year.
When plastic bags are thrown into a landfill, it can take up to 1,000 years to degrade and break down into tiny particles that then contaminate our soil and water. The question is, why use anything as harmful as a plastic product for less than 15 minutes and then throw it away?

Kind Bag is born

After reading all discouraging facts, she realised that while a complete solution to the plastic problem is likely years away, small changes can make a big difference. Here is when Kind Bag was born with a simple yet powerful mission. To combat plastic waste and replace some of the 1 trillion single-use bags by transforming used plastic bottles into beautiful Kind Bags.
